As an international student who is studying in Canada, I view the world from the perspective of having encountered many different ideas and experiences.  I was born in Nanjing, China, an area which known for its history and culture. I have a strong interest in painting and drawing.  In Canada, I have spent many hours in the painting studio at Sheridan College and have produced many works.

At Sheridan College, I have had the opportunity to learn many advanced painting and drawing techniques, such as methods to use different medium; and I also learned that proportion, perspective, colour are essential for create a work. Then I have become interested to the illustration. Because of the great education provided by Sheridan College and my efforts through the past three years, I have created a body of work, which is not only about painting, but also applies to other areas such as drawing, graphic design, and sculpture.

My experiences at Sheridan has helped me to improve upon my techniques, and I have gained a sense of creativity and maturity. My illustrations are inspired by the conflict between different cultures; such as different paces of life, slow pace of life here makes me have more time to find every little beauty in my life. The environment problem is also a subject I often use in my works, the contrast between here and living conditions in China is an interesting topic for me. Painting is a method where I can express images from my imagination; my work is my own point of view of the world, but also my dream of a simple world. I feel the distance between the world and me is not too close, but also not too far. The distance between the two is also my work subject. There is no politics in my works, no big feelings, most of them are my own subjective expression to myself. I would like to know what happened in this fast changing world, so I am also concerned about the trend, but not that interested in it. I try to make simple and clear works, usually without the text which for explain my work. The work I currently working on is a landscape painting which is about my hometown Nanjing. I try to bring some western art elements into my work, and I express issues related to the environment. My upcoming series will refer to the Nanjing in my memory, the creation for me is like writing a diary, very private. My work and my life are closely linked together, the production of each piece is an inevitable occurrence.
